1. Congratulate là gì?
Trong Tiếng Anh, Congratulate là 1 động từ, có nghĩa là chúc mừng, khen ai đó vì điều gì.
Ex: Kelly, I congratulate you! (Kelly, tớ chúc mừng cậu nhé!)
2. Cấu trúc congratulate trong tiếng anh
2.1 Congratulate đứng trước tân ngữ chỉ người
Khi muốn khen hay chúc mừng ai đó, ta sẽ sử dụng cấu trúc sau:
Congratulate + O: chúc mừng ai đó
Ex:
- Kimi, you’re great, I congratulate you! (Kimi, cậu thật tuyệt, tớ chúc mừng cậu!)
- Peter will congratulate you if he knows you do it yourself. (Peter sẽ chúc mừng cậu nếu anh ấy biết cậu tự làm nó.)
- Honey, you could come to congratulate my parents on Sunday. (Em yêu, em có thể đến chúc mừng bố mẹ anh vào chủ nhật.)
2.2 Cấu trúc Congratulation somebody on doing something
Congratulate + sb + on + N/ V-ing: chúc mừng ai đó về điều gì, hành động gì
Ex:
- People congratulate him on his great invention. (Mọi người chúc mừng anh ta về phát minh tuyệt vời của anh ấy.)
- My teacher congratulated me on having passed the entrance exam. (Cô giáo của tôi chúc mừng tôi đã vượt qua kỳ thi tuyển sinh.)
- Ran congratulates Conan on solving that difficult case. (Ran chúc mừng Conan đã phá được vụ án khó đó.)
2.3 Congratulate đứng trước đại từ phản thân
S + congratulate + Đại từ phản thân tương ứng với S (+ on + N/ V-ing): ai đó tự chúc mừng vì cái gì, điều gì
Ex: I always congratulate myself on my birthday. (Tôi luôn luôn tự chúc mừng bản thân vào sinh nhật của mình.)
3. Những điều cần lưu ý
Congratulate luôn đi với giới từ ON
Sau giới từ ON phải là 1 danh từ hoặc là V-ing
Để nói: tự chúc mừng bản thân thì sau Congratulate phải là đại từ phản thân
Có thể sử dụng THAT trong cấu trúc Congratulate.
Ex: We should congratulate him that he didn’t miss the final exam.
(Chúng ta nên chúc mừng anh ấy vì đã không lỡ bài kiểm tra cuối kì.)
Ngoài dùng Congratulate để khen hay chúc mừng thì ta còn có danh từ Congratulation (Congrats), cũng được sử dụng nhiều trong câu ngắn gọn.
Ex: Congratulations! You got the job! (Xin chúc mừng! Bạn đã có công việc rồi!)
